Silver, Gold and Growth in Argentina Minera Andes' San Jose high-grade silver/gold mine in southern Argentina began production on schedule in June 2007. As integrated operations begin, the mine and its production plant are ramping up to the envisioned beginning annualized production rate of 3.1 million ounces of silver and 61,000 ounces of gold. Minera Andes receives 49 percent of the value of San Jose's production, and our operating partner receives 51 percent. Mine Growth Envisioned The commissioning of the San Jose mine is just the beginning for the San Jose project area in highly prospective Santa Cruz province. A formal decision has been announced by the San Jose joint venture operating company, minera Santa Cruz, aimed at doubling production in 12 to 18 months from the June 2007 startup. A 40,000-meter exploration drilling program is underway, primarily in the immediate mine area, to expand the silver/gold resource base and increase mine life. The San Jose mine and its envisioned expansion may mark the gradual opening of the San Jose project as a mining district hosting multiple mines. About 14 geologic targets, some close-in to the mine, are known to exist. So far, only about 15 percent of the 40 kilometers of known vein strike length have been drill-tested, and these veins comprise a small area of the 99,000-acre San Jose joint venture. A New Frontier for Copper Minera Andes has made new discoveries, or been associated with new discoveries, in gold, silver and copper in Argentina where all of its work is conducted. The Los Azules copper discovery in San Juan province, Argentina is undergoing an economic scoping study, and is beginning to evolve as a sizeable discovery. Minera Andes' work at Los Azules fits the Company's business plan of exploration, discovery, development via partnership, production and profit sharing. |
